What Is An Irregular Cycle?

Women are often told that the average cycle lasts 28 days. The number is based on mean and median averages. A period may occur every 21 days to 35 days and typically lasts two to eight days.

Cycle length by itself doesn’t determine irregular cycle. Cycle patterns and symptoms indicate irregular periods.

  • The time between your period changes.
  • Heavy menstruation or menorrhagia.
  • Changes in length of menstruation.
  • Oligomenorrhea – having less than nine periods per year.
  • Amenorrhea – three or more missed periods.

You may have one or more signs that your cycles are irregular. Signs can also change month to month for many women.

What Causes Irregular Cycles?

The cycle length and ovulation timing vary from cycle to cycle and woman to woman. Only a small percentage of women with regular cycles ovulate on the same day each cycle! Medical conditions and health issues are also the causes of irregular menstrual cycles.

Only a small percentage of women with regular cycles ovulate on day 14 before the first day of your period. According to a study, overall, 2% of women are in their fertile window by the 4th day of their cycle, 17% by the seventh day, and 54% by days 12 and 13.

In addition to that, PCOS, fibroids, and inflammation etc. can lead to irregular cycles.

How does Mira help?

Mira is different from all other OPK’s because Mira gives your actual hormone concentrations. The only other place you can get to this level of accuracy is the doctors’ lab.

You can see your unique hormone curve, so you know exactly when you are fertile or non-fertile. OPK uses fixed hormone threshold to determine positive or negative so women with irregular cycles are likely ended up with false positive all the time. With Mira, you can see your actual hormone levels and unique curve and find your ovulation. Mira’s algorithm learns your cycle. Your test data is automatically synced and managed by the Mira App.
